This was a sad year for my entire family as our beloved Babcia Krysia succumbed to thyroid cancer in October 2012. I had visited my grandmother in April, while she was still getting treatments, and she asked me to make an urn for her when she died. The urn is made from spruce, which is the dominant tree in my grandmother's favorite place in the world - the Tatra mountains. The core resembles the construction method of the houses built in the Podhale region, and the design on the top is also typical of the area. My uncle Edek gave me a piece of spruce veneer from the Tatras in April, and I used it below the bloodwood cross that was inlayed in the front. May my grandmother rest in peace.
